Request a Custom Enclosure Quote
Send the drawing, CAD model or project information you already have. PrecMade reviews the configuration, identifies quote-critical gaps, compares practical manufacturing routes and defines the quotation basis before production scope is released.
You do not need a perfect RFQ to start. Missing technical or commercial inputs can be identified during review; they do not need to be guessed into the drawing or form.
Representative enclosure project context. Final manufacturing source, process scope, capability and evidence are confirmed for the assigned project.
Send what you have
STEP/STP, PDF, sketch, BOM context or an early model can establish the first review baseline.
Clarify quote-critical gaps
Open assumptions in geometry, quantities, finish, CTQs, evidence or delivery are identified before scope is frozen.
Confirm quotation basis
The quote can then state the reviewed configuration, route assumptions, quantities and project-specific deliverables.
Submit Your Engineering RFQ
Provide what you already know. Required fields are enough to start a review; missing technical or commercial inputs can be identified before the quotation basis is finalized.
Start with what is known. You do not need to choose the manufacturing route before submitting; open process or quality questions can be clarified during review. For sensitive files, flag the NDA requirement before sharing controlled drawings. If your files are already in a company file-sharing system, use the Drawing / File Share Link field.
A reviewable starting package can be incomplete.
The goal of the first submission is to establish what is known, what is still open and what must be confirmed before quotation.
Geometry / Drawing
STEP/STP and a controlled PDF are strongest when available, but early geometry or reference information can start review.
Quantity / Program Stage
Prototype, validation, pilot and repeat-production context can change route and quotation assumptions.
Material / Finish
Specify what is already fixed; leave genuinely open items open rather than inventing a requirement.
CTQ / Evidence
Identify critical interfaces, inspection or documentation needs when they matter to the project.
Before You Submit
Process not selected?
That is acceptable. Route selection should follow geometry, quantity, material, tolerances, finish, tooling economics and application requirements.
NDA required?
State that before sharing sensitive project information so the appropriate file-exchange process can be agreed.
Supplier qualification requirements?
Include required legal-entity, manufacturing-origin, inspection, material or other project-specific records in the RFQ.
Build One Project Baseline for Quotation
A useful quote is easier to compare when geometry, requirements, quantities and evidence needs refer to the same project baseline. You can still start with incomplete information; open items should remain visible rather than being hidden in assumptions.
Geometry & revision
3D geometry plus the controlled drawing or current reference state.
Functional requirements
Material, finish, interfaces, CTQs, environmental and assembly needs.
Program & evidence
Quantity stage, inspection/documentation needs, delivery and commercial assumptions.
Quotation basis
A reviewed configuration and visible assumptions that can be compared and revised.
Engineering Baseline
CAD & controlled drawing
STEP/STP and PDF are preferred when available; include revision, units and drawing-controlled requirements.
Material, finish & interfaces
State alloy/material, thickness where relevant, finish, masking, hardware and installed interface requirements that are already defined.
Critical & functional requirements
Call out CTQs, tolerances, sealing surfaces, thermal/EMI constraints, cosmetic zones and assembly conditions that affect the enclosure.
Program & Commercial Baseline
Quantity & program stage
Separate prototype, validation, pilot and repeat-production demand where known instead of treating one quantity as the whole program.
Evidence & supplier requirements
Identify inspection, material, test, certificate or supplier-qualification requirements only where they are project-relevant.
Delivery & open assumptions
Provide destination/schedule context when known and leave unresolved items visible for review rather than turning them into hidden quotation assumptions.
Why this matters: the quotation should make clear which configuration, quantity basis and project-specific evidence were reviewed. A later change to those inputs can require the quotation or manufacturing plan to be reviewed again.
What Happens After You Submit
The first objective is not to force an instant process choice. It is to establish a reviewable project baseline, identify quote-critical gaps and define the assumptions that the quotation will rely on.
Review the available baseline
Drawing/configuration, revision, quantity, material, finish, critical features, application requirements, evidence needs and delivery context are reviewed together.
Clarify quote-critical gaps
Questions that affect manufacturability, route selection, inspection, pricing or responsibility are separated from items that can remain open.
Confirm quotation basis & next steps
The quotation can then state the reviewed scope, route assumptions, quantities and project-specific deliverables that are included or still subject to confirmation.
Quotation is not production release. Tooling, final capability, lead time, inspection/document scope and manufacturing-source commitments remain subject to the reviewed project scope and quotation confirmation.
Questions About Custom Enclosure Quotes
Short answers to the questions that most often block an engineering RFQ from moving forward.
What files should I send for a custom enclosure quote?
A STEP/STP 3D model together with a controlled PDF drawing is preferred when available. The drawing can carry revision, units, critical dimensions, tolerances, threads, finishes, cosmetic requirements and inspection requirements that may not be fully defined by the 3D model.
Can I submit an enclosure project before the CAD design is finalized?
Yes. An initial review can begin with the information currently available, such as sketches, reference models, approximate dimensions, application requirements or an early CAD model. A production quotation may require additional definition before manufacturing scope is confirmed.
Can I request pricing for several production quantities?
Yes. Include the quantity breaks that matter to your program, such as prototype, validation, pilot and repeat-production quantities, plus estimated annual demand when it is useful to the quotation.
Do I need to choose the manufacturing process before requesting a quote?
No. The route should follow enclosure geometry, material, quantity, tooling economics, tolerance, finish and application requirements. A project may also combine a primary process with secondary machining, finishing, hardware installation or assembly.
What should I do if an NDA is required before sending drawings?
Indicate the NDA requirement before sharing sensitive drawings. The confidentiality and file-exchange process can then be reviewed before detailed project files are exchanged.
Send the project baseline you have now.
A drawing does not need to be perfect before review. The useful next step is to make the known requirements, open assumptions and required evidence visible enough to define the quotation basis.
